How to Adjust Your Skincare Routine for the Hot Summer Months

It’s been a hot summer, and the heat is still far from over. And if you haven’t already switched to a summertime skincare routine, then you’ve probably noticed that your usual routine isn’t holding up so well under the heat. That’s why board-certified dermatologists Dr. Glodny and Dr. Warner highly recommend adjusting the way you take care of your skin during the summer season.

Here are a few simple tips that you can try to give your skincare routine the summertime makeover it needs:

Better, Stronger Sunscreen

If you have a comprehensive daily skincare routine down pat, then you already know the value of wearing sunscreen every day. The best thing you can do for your skin in the summer is to make sure that you are using sunscreen with at least SPF 30 on your face and body and applying a lip balm with SPF. Choose cosmetically elegant formulas that you’ll actually want to reach for and reapply them regularly to ensure that your skin is well-protected during all of your summer fun. Applying light sun screens that are broad spectrum is absolutely a must during the summer.

Less Makeup, Less Cleanup

Another easy change you can make to your skincare routine is donning less makeup throughout your day. This will serve two purposes. First, excess makeup under the hot summer heat will feel like it’s smothering your pores; less will ensure that your skin is able to breathe comfortably. Not to mention your sweat will more than likely smudge your delicate makeup work.

Second, thoroughly washing and cleaning your face at the end of the day should NOT be skipped ever but definitely not during the summer months. As such, the less makeup you have to worry about removing, particularly stubborn waterproof formulas, the easier this will become! Sweat will accelerate bacterial overgrowth and clogging of your pores therefore requiring a thorough yet gentle cleanse once to twice daily.

Continue Moisturizing, Just Lighter

Though the humid summer air brings along with it more moisture than you’d find during the wintertime, that doesn’t mean that you should quit using a moisturizer altogether. However, it does mean that you should consider one that is lighter so that it rests easier on your skin throughout the day. Plus, finding a light moisturizer with SPF protection will help even more!
