Microneedling

Microneedling NYC | Microneedling with PRP Upper East Side | Park Avenue Dermatology

Microneedling has been a trusted method for facial rejuvenation for years, and it continues to be quite an effective treatment for many skin care concerns. In fact, at Park Avenue Dermatology, our experts will often combine microneedling with other treatments, such as platelet-rich plasma (PRP). PRP offers a natural or “organic” way to enhance your skin’s appearance without using foreign chemicals or materials.

NYC PRP microneedling uses growth factors and vitamins from your own blood to help create healthier and more vibrant skin. Both microneedling and PRP are safe, effective ways to tap into your body’s own healing abilities for a fresher, more youthful look. Either can be used separately as effective treatments, but when combined in the same procedure, your benefits can be multiplied.

Park Ave Derm is dedicated to serving our patients by providing procedures that yield significant benefits in your natural appearance and confidence. Our team of professional aestheticians and nurses, led by the seasoned expertise of Dr. Bradley Glodny, focuses on personalized microneedling and PRP facial rejuvenation treatments designed to meet your individual skincare needs. We pride ourselves on achieving standout results, positioning us as a leading provider of microneedling and PRP treatments in New York City.

What Is NYC Microneedling?

Microneedling, often known as collagen induction therapy, is a cosmetic technique that rejuvenates the skin by creating precise and controlled micro-injuries (small punctures) to the top layers of the skin. This process naturally stimulates the growth of new collagen and elastin fibers, essential proteins for maintaining youthful and firm skin. Microneedling can also help minimize pore size and diminish hyperpigmentation.  Microneedling is effective for a variety of skin issues, and skin types, helping to enhance the skin’s texture and appearance to reveal smoother and more vibrant skin.

What is NYC PRP?

Platelet-rich plasma, or PRP, is harvested from a patient’s own blood. Plasma contains both platelets essential to the body’s healing abilities and growth factors that encourage collagen production and connective tissue regeneration. PRP therapy can be used alone, yet it is often combined with other treatments, such as fractional/ablative lasers and microneedling, to maximize the patient’s results.

At Park Ave Derm, we utilize Crown Aesthetics’ ProGen PRP Eclipse System. The benefits of this advanced PRP system include:

  • High-Efficiency Blood Filtration: With processing tubes available in 15mL and 30mL sizes, the system is proficient in eliminating up to 99% of Red Blood Cells.
  • Reliable and Consistent Outcomes: The system is engineered to produce between 7-15mL of high-quality Platelet Rich Plasma, reliably meeting a range of clinical needs.
  • Minimal Blood Requirement: Requiring a small blood volume for processing, the Eclipse system offers a more patient-friendly approach.
  • Tailored Patient Care: Its versatile design enables healthcare providers to personalize the procedure to the specific needs of each patient.

What Happens During a NYC PRP Microneedling Treatment?

During a microneedling with PRP treatment, a small amount of blood is taken (about the same amount you would have drawn for a typical blood test). Next, the blood is placed into a centrifuge, separating its components and concentrating the PRP, which contains three to five times more growth factors than circulating blood. The PRP is then applied and/or injected into the treatment areas to encourage collagen production and tissue regeneration.

What are the Benefits of PRP Microneedling in Manhattan?

Key benefits of microneedling with PRP facial rejuvenation include but are not limited to:

  • Renewed collagen and elastin production
  • Reduced wrinkles and fine lines
  • Firmer, tighter, more youthful skin
  • Improved skin tone, including melasma or other hyperpigmentation
  • Improved skin texture, including acne or surgical scars
  • Minimized pores
  • Plumper skin
  • Improved elasticity
  • Natural, chemical-free treatment
  • Minimal discomfort
  • Little to no downtime

Microneedling and microneedling with PRP are typically well-tolerated and safe for almost every patient. In one session, microneedling with PRP therapy can help improve signs of sun damage and aging. However, most patients will need a series of treatments for the absolute best results, each treatment spaced about 4 weeks apart. By stimulating the body’s natural processes, microneedling continues to improve the skin’s overall appearance long after each treatment. Final results can take about 6-8 weeks to be appreciated after your final treatment.

Am I an Ideal Candidate for NYC Microneedling with PRP?

Microneedling and PRP facial rejuvenation treatments are safe for most skin types and are a good alternative to more invasive procedures. These treatments are effective for improving skin tone and texture. Exemplary candidates for microneedling with PRP procedures should:

  • Be in good overall health, living a healthy lifestyle
  • Clinical evidence of appropriate skin concerns.
  • Not be pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Have realistic expectations and a positive outlook
  • Understand the risks and benefits
  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Not have any bleeding or clotting disorders

Another reason why microneedling and PRP are such wonderful treatments is because both can be used effectively for skin of color patients.  While many laser and resurfacing treatments may be risky in patients with darker skin tones, microneedling and PRP are both safe in skin types 4-6.

Patients who may not be suitable candidates for microneedling with PRP include those who:

  • Have platelet disorders
  • Are on medications that inhibit platelet function
  • Take blood thinners
  • Have a history of alcohol or drug misuse
  • Have acne, eczema, psoriasis, or other active skin infections

Microneedling with and without PRP Procedure Overview in New York City

On the day of your microneedling procedure, we ask you to come to our office with clean, moisturized skin free of make up. Your aesthetician will review the details of your procedure and answer any final questions you have.

While treatment is generally well-tolerated, some patients require a topical numbing agent to keep them comfortable throughout the treatment. Be sure to discuss your pain concerns with our aesthetician before beginning your microneedling treatment.

For microneedling with PRP, your treatment will begin with a blood draw. Your blood will then be processed by centrifuge to concentrate the platelet-rich plasma. After processing, your esthetician will apply the PRP to the treatment areas via a handheld microneedling device. Many patients report a mild prickling sensation throughout the treatment.

Depending on the treatment area, microneedling treatments typically take 30 to 45 minutes.

Following microneedling or microneedling with PRP, you may experience slight redness and swelling in the treatment areas. While you should be able to resume most normal activities, it is important to follow all post-treatment instructions to ensure proper healing and an optimal outcome.

When Will I See My NYC Microneedling Results?

For the first 24 to 48 hours following microneedling or microneedling with ProGen PRP, your skin may appear red like you have a mild sunburn. You may also experience dryness, tightness, tenderness, or peeling; however, these side effects should resolve without intervention within a few days.  At times slight bruising can occur during/after your microneedling procedure.

Your skin will begin looking refreshed and brighter about a week after your microneedling treatment. Microneedling treatments provide results that are both immediate and progressive.

As collagen production increases after your microneedling and microneedling with PRP treatment, your results will continue to improve for about six to eight weeks after your last treatment.

While some patients see improvements after one treatment, others will need a series of sessions scheduled four to six weeks apart to achieve optimal results. The number of sessions required depends on your skin concerns and treatment goals.

How Long Will My NYC Microneedling with PRP Results Last?

While microneedling treatments can be a permanent solution for some patients, outcomes typically last four to six months depending on your skincare regimen and sun avoidance techniques. Microneedling and microneedling with PRP results vary from person to person based upon the treatment concerns, severity of skin laxity/fine lines/wrinkles and skin type. During your consultation, we will give you more precise information regarding how long your final results may last. Our aesthetician will help you determine the best time to schedule your follow-up microneedling treatments and aid in choosing the best products to use for your skin for post care treatment.

How Much Does Microneedling with PRP Cost in NYC?

New York City microneedling costs will vary by patient, depending on your individual needs and goals, the extent of your treatment, and the expertise of your provider. During your consultation, our aesthetician, guided by Dr. Glodny, will determine the scope of your procedure and estimate your microneedling with PRP cost.

Microneedling with PRP FAQs

Microneedling with platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is often considered more effective than microneedling alone because PRP, derived from the patient’s own blood, contains growth factors and neutrients that can enhance the skin’s healing and rejuvenation process. When combined with microneedling, PRP can further stimulate collagen production, improve skin texture, and promote overall skin rejuvenation, leading to more significant and longer-lasting results compared to microneedling alone.

The duration of results from microneedling with PRP can vary from person to person. However, many patients experience noticeable improvements in skin texture and tone for several months following the procedure. To maintain the best results, periodic maintenance treatments may be recommended based on individual needs and goals.

Microneedling with PRP and Botox are different treatments that target different skin concerns. Microneedling with PRP is primarily used to improve skin texture, tone, and overall rejuvenation, while Botox is often used to reduce the appearance of dynamic wrinkles and lines caused by facial muscle movement. In many cases, these treatments can complement each other to address multiple skin concerns effectively.

After PRP microneedling, it is typically recommended to wait at least 4 to 6 hours before washing your face. However, it’s essential to follow the specific post-treatment instructions provided by your dermatologist to ensure optimal healing and results. At Park Ave Derm, you will receive specific directions regarding your gentle skincare routine post your microneedling treatment.

Microneedling with PRP is generally considered safe and suitable for various skin types, including fair, olive, and darker skin tones. In fact, microneedling is one of the best modalities in treating darker skin types due to its excellent safety profile. However, it’s essential to consult with a qualified dermatologist who can evaluate your skin type and customize the treatment to address your specific needs while minimizing the risk of potential complications.

Following PRP microneedling, many individuals can typically resume their regular daily activities, including work and light exercise, within a day or two. However, it’s important to avoid vigorous exercise, excessive sweating, and sun exposure for a few days to to a week following the procedure to allow the skin to heal properly and optimize the results.
