What Is Lumenis M22 Nd:YAG Treatment?
The Lumenis M22 Nd:YAG laser is a non-ablative, vascular-specific laser designed to treat visible blood vessel lesions with precision. It targets blue and green pigmentation within the vessels while leaving surrounding tissue unharmed, which reduces downtime and side effects. The dermatologists at Park Ave. Derm use this technology to treat a wide range of vascular concerns, including spider veins, venous lakes, angiomas, and more.
This customizable laser allows for precise adjustments in energy and pulse duration, making it safe and effective on nearly any area of the body, including the face, legs, lips, and nose.
How Does Lumenis M22 Nd:YAG Work?
Using short bursts of focused light energy, the laser breaks down unwanted blood vessels and stimulates collagen production beneath the skin. This dual action improves both vascular clarity and overall skin tone.
Patients may notice temporary redness, bruising, or swelling for a few hours to several days, but most resume daily activities right away. In fact, bruising is often a positive sign that the treatment was effective, indicating that the targeted vessels have collapsed and will soon be replaced with clear, healthy skin.
While some improvement can be seen after a single session, most patients benefit from a series of 2–3 treatments for long-lasting, optimal results.

Lumenis M22 Nd:YAG Procedure Overview
Three days prior to your Lumenis M22 Nd:YAG laser treatment, you should avoid using any products containing retinol, benzoyl peroxide, glycolic or salicylic acids, or harsh astringents.
On the day of your laser procedure, we ask you to come to our office with clean skin that is free of moisturizers, cosmetics and/or makeup. Your provider will review the details of your procedure and answer any final questions you have.
To begin your procedure, we may numb the treatment area with a topical anesthetic to ensure you remain comfortable. We will also provide eye protection. Then, your provider will calibrate the specific settings of the Lumenis M22 Nd:YAG laser according to your unique skin tone and skin concerns.
Your provider will guide the handpiece over the treatment area to deliver precise energy bursts that will break down the blood vessel growths. During this stage, you may feel slight discomfort as the laser causes micro-injuries to the skin. However, most patients find the treatment well-tolerable. Multiple pulses are typically performed on each spot with your Park Ave Derm dermatologist assessing in between each pulse for benefit and safety.
Recovery time after a Lumenis M22 Nd:YAG laser treatment is minimal and should not prohibit your normal daily activities. Following your treatment, you may experience bruising, mild swelling, redness, or itchiness that should resolve within a few days or mild scabbing in the treatment area that should resolve within a few days to a week.
It is important to avoid scrubbing the treated area and to keep your skin moisturized and protected with broad-spectrum sunscreen as it heals.
