At Park Avenue Dermatology, we often recommend Dysport® or Jeuveau®. When compared to Botox®, Dysport® and Jeuveau® work very similarly; however, Dysport® has smaller particles that result in a more even distribution with fewer injections, especially in larger areas like the forehead. Dysport® often delivers results faster than Botox®, with results beginning to appear in 48 hours and reaching its maximum effect at about one week. This differs greatly from Botox®, which is most effective at about two weeks after injection. In general, Botox® and Dysport® seem to be effective for about the same amount of time (from 3-5 months). Each patient may experience a slightly different length of duration depending on their biology and your injector’s technique.

Botox | Dysport Procedure in NYC Overview
On the day of your Botox® procedure, we ask you to come to our office with clean skin. If you can arrive with minimal to no makeup, that would be ideal. We will review the details of your neuromodulator procedure and answer any final questions you have.
Typically, Botox® injections are well-tolerated, and as such, you will not need to receive any local anesthetic. However, it’s essential to address your pain concerns before beginning your neuromodulator treatment.
For most patients, Botox®, Dysport®, and Jeuveau® injections are quick, and since a numbing cream will be applied to the skin, you will not feel any pain. Depending on the location and number of treatment areas, treatment takes approximately 15 to 45 minutes.
As Botox® injections require no downtime, patients can resume most normal activities immediately. Side effects may include swelling or mild bruising at the injection site; however, these effects should resolve without intervention within a few days. It is very important to note that at Park Ave. Derm, we do not recommend applying cold pack to the areas you have received Botox® injections, since this may decrease the effectiveness of the injections.

Most patients experience visible Botox® results between 7 and 14 days after injection. For this reason, at Park Ave. Derm we most often recommend Dypsort®, which takes effect between 3 and 7 days. After this time, it is recommended that you come into our office for your next round of Botox®/Dysport® injections to maintain your younger-looking, smoother appearance.
While Botox® produces temporary results, some studies suggest that sun exposure without adequate protection may further reduce its longevity. It is important to avoid excessive sun exposure during the course of your Botox® and/or Dysport® treatment. Sun exposure will make your skin thinner and less healthy making file lines and wrinkles much more prominent.
